Eye Exam

So I went to the eye doctor recently. Was quite interesting actually. They did tons more tests this time and ended up telling me, yes that I don't see very well. Surprise huh? And apparently I should eat spinach. No, I'm serious, they told me I need to eat more dark leaffy greens, and they specifically suggested spinach. I wonder, does this girl go home at night and giggle with her husband over the fact that she got to tell another middle aged chubby person to eat spinach? ( I totally would, if I was her) This machine registered the level of something or other in my skin ( I'm still serious). What struck me as really humorous was that she gave me a card to show my low level of whatever-this-stuff-is that I'm not getting enough of, but when I asked her exactly what it was and I didn't quite understand her answer. ( hey the machines are loud and I'm deaf) So she hands me this card, and I think , oh I won't have to ask her to repeat it because she gave me this cool card. So I look at it. And it says a number. That's it. Oh and the name of the company who makes this card. ( in China perhaps, where they don't know the name of this stuff either?)

You still with me? Yes I did try to google it when I got home. Turns out that when people get to my age, their bodies don't make certain vitamins and such very well. ( gee big surprise, another fun middle aged thing) So we are supposed to be punished  supplement our diets with more dark green leaffy stuff. Aka salad. Or worse, cooked spinach.

On to the real eye test. Which at this point, I am treating as a genuinely entertaining outing. They use more machines and a whole lot of " hold this over your left eye. No your other left" and then they tell me that (a) my beginnning of a cataract is looking BETTER ( yay! didn't know they could do that) probably because my blood pressure is under control but (b)my vision is worse. Great. Every time they say my vision is worse they tack another couple hundred dollars onto the cost of my lens. But good news, my eyes are relatively healthy ( for a middle aged chubby person who may be deficient in something or other) Just for fun, I looked at glass frames. The girl who was helping me was so earnest. Then I asked for a just for fun estimate of the cost of glasses with the frame and lens. $900. Nine hundred FREAKING dollars! They lost me on that one. Those glasses would have to be solid GOLD for me to pay that. And thats not quite $300 for the frames. So just the lens is $600.  So then I asked for an estimate on paper so I can phone the medical insurance to see what part they will pay on glasses. Once they stop laughing that is.

You should call the vision centres in walmarts, i looked it up and PG and williams lake has one. if the insurance place doesnt cover anything you might want to check out walmarts prices thats where my sister went since she had no insurance. i ate spinach for awhile in my wraps and left a werid feeling in my mouth..lol my sister uses it in EVERYTHING she cooks. i remember coming home one night and had the munchies and saw pizza in the fridge so i grabbed a slice (about 2am) and went to my room and when i turned on the light it was feta cheese and spinach lol it was gross. there was some more unknowns on there! i hope the insurance place is nice to you

You definitely take the cake for randomness!!! I love it! Last time i got my eyes checked, they did this freaky puff of air shot into my eyes...not kewl! I fricken nearly freaked out when i realized what they were trying to do lol **i hate anything touching my eyes, and apparently air is one of those things i cant stand** Hopefully you get coverage!!! I almost had to pay 500$ for a dental check up....nearly had a heart attack!

It sucks that they make you pay a fee to get an eyetest done. It was cheaper for me because of my blood pressure issues and theres a chance I might lupus. I found THE Neatest frames in Walmart ( thanks for the tip!)
