Projects I'd Love to Do

Wagon Wheel Granny Square
from Attic24 blog

A twist on the basic granny square, devised by an oh so clever gal!
She says she will be making a tutorial on it! Yay!

I'd also like to learn to do "the ripple" I really like it in bright non boring colors!

Look at the scrumptious colors!

I think this one is called Stained Glass because of the black framing the bright colors

Then there is this one!

Funny thing - I used to crochet and make granny squares. I loved it. But I put my hook down for a long time and I feel a little silly saying the reason, but really I didn't want to be like my mom. My mom is so talented but she had her own ideas of what looked good and what colors went together. She'd do these intricate afghans and send them to us and they were erm um ...ugly. She's start one off in purple and end it in green. Or she'd throw random bits of whatever all throughout it. Me, wanting so much to have anything to MATCH! She never asked what colors I liked (or what colors I hated).  And to make things worse, they smelled bad. Like a combination of mothballs, rotten oranges , mildew and olllldd perfume. But they'd end up on the back of our already thrashed couch, being kneaded by kittens, made into tents by the kids, and comforting whatever sick person was groaning on the couch. It's not like I could throw them out. They were "perfectly good" blankets and they were, after all, lovingly hand made by Granny. I guess I've mellowed, because now I smile at the memories...and carefully tuck the last few afghans in tissue paper and into our antique trunk. Because seriously, I'm weird in my color choices, but purple and green and yellow??!!  And if I really get back into this crocheting thing, I will try to actually ask what colors you like before I make you an afghan. I probably won't listen and make them in my own wild choice of colors. But hey, I will ask!

My friend Charlotte made me a beautiful afghan out of cotton yarn. It's so soft and no itchiness! It's a lovely cream color with heart shapes, the prettiest afghan I've seen yet.
