I've always had a fondness for eggs and birdies and birdhouses ( I can feel Starla flinching as she agrees) And guess what?? The latest decorating phase is eggs, birdies and nests!! Yay! Upon seeing all the delightful eggs made from various materials, on decorating blogs, I decided, well gosh I need to get some eggs. Not real eggs mind you. Fake eggs in various delightful colors. So I kept my eyes open in the stores. Hmm, turns out in this wonderful northern BC town there is no such thing as a fake egg, unless you count the plastic ones you buy at Easter, to put candies in for the little ones. How could that be?? I'd seen darling little eggs on blogs in New Zealand, Australia and the UK - how could we not have any?? But no eggs. In fact we have no craft stores, unless you count the pathetic 1 1/2 aisles in Walmart. I don't blame Walmart . Or any other stores in town. Its not like our little burg is known for its decorating savvy ( did I spell that right?) Most people are too busy shovelling snow or mowing impossibly huge lawns, taking care of gardens or fields of hay and doing practical things like baking bread and attending the goat auction. Its a lovely little town, full of friendly interesting people. But decorating is not a huge focus here. Add that to the fact that any fad always reaching our town about five years after any other place.
I know it is not essential to my life that I find decorative eggs . But gosh it would be a fun little project, to paint them and place around the house to confound my family. This summer I will frequent garage sales (against James vigorous protests I'm sure) I will be on the hunt for eggs and tiny birds that I can spray paint (spray painting everything you can, is another decorating phase) After I bake bread of course.
