I love Vintage!

I don't know if we ever used the word " vintage" when I was a " younger" woman, but even if we did I'm pretty sure it didn't mean all the cool things vintage seems to mean now. My latest entertainment has been visiting blogs of various gals all over the world, who collect and decorate " vintage" objects and love " vintage colors" and who are "recyling" old objects into new, with their own added creative touch.
There are several reasons that this entertains me. One is that I LOVE seeing young people love the things I loved when I was a child. And one thing I LOVED loved was BOOKS!! When I look at an old child's book ( popular items now) it brings nostalgic memories, of reading them when I was a child, and reading them to my own kids. I remember LOVING certain authors and the original drawings and paintings in many of the books. I've hung on to a really old set of Thornton Burgess books that delighted me as a young child. I remember finding a stack of them in a garage sale when my kids were little and I carted them home, knowing I'd found a treasure. But who knew they'd be considered more of a treasure now? It tickles me, to know that our kids and grandkids value our past, even if they probably do see it through very rosy colored vintage spectacles! ( smile!)

I have collected a nice little collection of Golden books by Eloise Wilkin. Her delightful art has never been surpassed by any other author, in my eyes! I don't have a lot of memories of my very young years, so it is special to me that I remember reading one of her books over and over again, I remember thinking that I wanted to be that mommy with those darling babies, when I grew up!

Who could not love this darling illustration??

These books are now being re-printed for the new reader of this era, of course they're not 39cents anymore! But well worth buying them, even if they're just "imitation vintage" ( smile)

Maybe it really was a " simpler time" in those days. Maybe it was just that the seamier side of life was just more hidden. But I remember some wonderful long summer days, curled up in a cool corner of the house, with a stack of books beside me, and reading the whole day and long into the night, wrapped up in other worlds.

Amazing photos. I love the old golden books too. I have a few that I won't part with. Love the baby photo.
